This is the first of many photos I took at the park with my nieces. Sweet Lyla is now 3 years old, and is sweet as she can be ... most of the time. To get this shot, I crawled under the playground equipment and encouraged her to climb, the sun positioned at her back.

The month of December has been insane, but I'm ready to get back on the photo-posting bandwagon. To kick off my holiday vacation, I present this little gem: my 3-year-old niece, Lyla, telling her Opa-Claus what she wants for Christmas. (Rumor has it had something to do with a Barbie doll.)
This is now one of my all-time favorite pictures. A completely unscripted moment, as the saying goes, as this little man skipped across the bridge after posing for a few shots. I don't know which I love best - the dichotomy of the Pull-Up peeking out of the grown-up clothes or the fact that he seems to have so much joy in that little body that walking just won't do.

This is the very last frame of a family photo shoot from several weeks ago... and I laugh every time I see it. Poor guy ... he was playing on the swings, and I'm shooting away, and he accidentally let go with one hand at the same time his mama gave him a push. He dangled upside down for a few heart-stopping seconds, until - with one arm - he pulled himself back upright.
We couldn't help it ... we laughed ... until he turned around and insisted, "It's not funny!" I, of course, was continuing to shoot - and captured this candid. Sorry, little guy ... it wasn't funny ... it was hilarious. We're just glad you weren't hurt!

This little man belongs to friends of Jim + I, and I think he's just the cutest thing around. When I tried shooting a family photo for their Christmas card last year, he was, shall we say, uncooperative. It amazes me the difference a year makes. At three, he is so much easier to work with - and this day, he was super excited to have his picture taken. It doesn't hurt that he really likes Jim, either. (I'm telling you, my husband is my secret weapon to getting great smiles out of kids!)

During a recent family photo shoot for friends, we egged their 3-year-old on to show us how his dad taught him to "Hook 'em". I figure it's only fair that I show this utterly adorable photo on my blog in the interest of equal college rights - seeing as how I have so many Aggie baby photos here, too.
My only regret with this photo is the depth of field ... I was shooting pretty wide open, and as a result, his hand isn't as focused as I'd like.

I've learned that the very best photographs of children happen when you allow them to play, and follow them with your camera. This little guy was climbing all over the playground equipment, so I crawled beneath him and shot up. I'm amazed that I caught both the smattering of freckles across his nose and the gleam in his eyes, despite the fact that he was backlit and I wasn't using a flash.

I remember visiting this little man in the NICU during his first few weeks of life. Seeing him grown, strong, and full of life makes me that much more appreciative of the miracles doctors and nurses are working every single day.
