On Friday night, I had the honor of serving my church by shooting portraits of couples attending Date Night. It was an opportunity to try out some of my new equipment, including my 8' Bogen/Manfrotto flash stand and its' accompanying combo Justin clamp and flash shoe, as well as the 32" 5-in-1 diffuser/reflector and its 6' stand with boom arm. To set up this shot, I put my Speedlight SB-800 on the stand and positioned the reflector to the left of the subject, just as close as I could get without getting it in the shot. Then, I pointed the flash at the diffuser and played with distance until I was happy with the diffused light.
I took this test shot of my husband at 90mm and f/4.6. I am stunned and delighted at how big of a difference the right lighting can make ... and I think the $250 I spent at B&H to get started was money well-spent. I cannot WAIT to take it all to San Antonio in a few weeks; it's going to improve the results of our annual family photo shoot drastically!
